China to Improve Food Safety?

In recent years, there has been a series of problems in the U.S. concerning sub-standard food and other products from China. China is now working to improve the standard of food.
In recent years, there has been a series of problems in the U.S. concerning sub-standard food and other products from China. Some of them were:
· Vegetables containing pesticide residue
· Eggs containing industrial dyes
· Fish with possible carcinogens
· Contaminated raw heparin made from diseased animals (heparin is a blood thinner used during kidney dialysis)
Similar incidents happened in other countries also, which import goods from China. Poisoning cases and some deaths have been the result
This month, the Chinese government has solicited Chinese public opinion on a newly drafted law designed to improve product quality. It covers food safety monitoring and evaluation, product recall and information release.
This law lays out a range of penalties for producers of sub-standard food. They could be fined, their Income could be confiscated and production certificates could be revoked. Prison terms range from three years to life.
Chinese Public Opinion Solicited
The law was drafted last year and submitted to the Chinese government’s Standing Committee in December, 2007. Public opinion is being solicited until May 20, 2008, and at that point it will all be submitted to the Standing Committee for their review. No schedule is yet established for the law’s legislative progress.
The top legislator in China is Wu Bangguo. He is aged 64, a long-time member and official of the Communist Party, and a member of the Standing Committee. His career has been a series of management positions related to science and technology, with membership in several dozen Bureaus of various kinds.
Wu Bangguo announced in March of this year that he would give the Chinese public more input into the formulation of this food safety law, because of the repeated international incidents of sub-standard products. The government plans to publish drafts of all its laws on its website, inviting public comment.
Defective products, food or otherwise, are an ongoing concern in the U.S., with our Food and Drug Administration (FDA) filtering what food, drugs, and medical devices can be marketed. The FDA has an extensive and rigorous testing program, with three Phases. The products we buy should be safe and effective. However, sometimes they are not, and injury or even death can be the result.
If you or a loved one have been hurt by contaminated food, a defective medical device, unsafe vehicle, child’s toy, or any other sub-standard product, you may have a valid legal claim. Rather than worry and wonder about it, the best thing to do is consult an experienced defective product attorney. There would be no cost to you up front, and the lawyers would not be paid until they win an award or settlement amount for you. Don’t wait until the statute of limitations runs out.
