Common online counseling curriculums are comprised of training and education in human relations and therapies geared toward personal and professional growth; counseling theory and research; individual and group counseling; and other pertinent studies. Comprehensive classes include but are not limited to psychological studies; multicultural relationships; human development; counseling philosophy and theories; business aspects of counseling; theories in family therapy; diagnostics and psychopathology; client assessment; and many other intensive lessons.
To meet individual needs, online counseling degrees can be achieved in the amount of time suitable to the student; however, two years of studies are often required to attain an online degree of 60 hours. To become a licensed professional counselor, students are often required to complete 2,000 hours of internship and be able to pass *state licensing examination. *(Independent state regulations, exams and requirements vary. Please check with your online school for information regarding requirements for your state of residence.)
