Do More And Get More By Deciding To Be Decisive!

Author: Dr. Gary S. Goodman

Indecision leads to procrastination and other woes, says Dr. Gary S. Goodman, noted sales, service, and success consultant. Most people are indecisive because they haven't made the threshold decision to be more decisive, says this keynote speaker and author of the popular audio program, "The Law of Large Numbers: How To Make Success Inevitable," published by Nightingale-Conant.

Decisions make you powerful, active, focused, and ready to face your day.

Indecision makes you procrastinate, lose initiative, gumption, and get up and go.

When you get into the habit of making decisions quickly, and then sticking to them until they come to fruition, you gain strength.

The habit of hesitating, second-guessing your strategy, holding back, and not committing weakens you.

But you won’t get better at making and sticking to decisions if you leave the process to chance. This good habit won’t develop by itself.

You must decide to be decisive!

This needs to become its own affirmation: I am decisive. I make decisions quickly after checking the available facts. Then, I act on my decisions, accomplishing more than ever.

If you ever get stuck in a rut, where you’re not achieving enough of the right things, or you feel listless, though you’re otherwise in perfect health, ask yourself, “What decision have I failed to make?”

Sometimes, the answer will surprise you.

I didn’t take a vacation for a long time, because I was undecided as to whether to do something active, like go skiing or surfing, or do something a little more passive, like visiting a big city to see some shows and museums.

So, my vacation, which I really needed for refreshment, was put on a back burner until I got in touch with my inner athlete, and headed off to the slopes. Once I saw what my indecision was about, it was easy to rectify it.

If lots of things are piling up, you may have failed to decide which is your top priority. Once that is settled, you can do it, feel great about this accomplishment, and then generate some momentum for getting the rest of your matters done.

If things habitually stack up, and you feel like Sisyphus, repeatedly pushing the same boulder up the hill, only to have it roll back toward you, then it’s time to decide to be decisive, and this is nothing less than a change of habit.

If you find it hard to make this commitment, try setting a deadline!
