In a very historic NBA finals, which paired two of the NBA's most storied franchises, the Boston Celtics were able to knock off the Los Angeles Lakers in a grueling six game series. Lakers final against Boston Celtics

In a very historic NBA finals, which paired two of the NBA's most storied franchises, the Boston Celtics were able to knock off the Los Angeles Lakers in a grueling six game series. In both arenas, it was very historic seeing all the great retired players in both Celtics jerseys, and (Lakers Jerseys), and all the past championship banners. It was what a NBA final should be.

For the Lakers, the series started well, leading at halftime with a 51-46 lead. The third and fourth quarters were not pretty for the Lakers, as the Celtics outscored them 52-37, and came away with a 98-88 win. Their “big three” in Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen led the Celtics. Garnett scored 24 points and added 13 rebounds, while Pierce added 22, and Allen 19. Rajon Rondo also got in the fun, adding 15 points and 7 rebounds. The Lakers were once again led in scoring by Kobe Bryant's 24 points. Pau Gasol and Derek Fisher added 15 for the Lakers, but it was not enough, as the Lakers fell 1-0 in the series.

Game two saw the Celtics lead by as many as 25 points, but had to survive a 41 point fourth quarter from the Lakers to hold on to a 108-102 win, to move ahead 2-0 in the series. Kobe Bryant shot the ball very well in game two scoring 30 points on 11-23 shooting, and also adding 8 assists. Pau Gasol added 17, Lamar Odom 10 and Vladmir Radmanovic 17. Gasol and Radmanovic also grabbed 10 rebounds. For the Celtics, Paul Pierce could not be stopped going 4-4 from behind the arc, scoring 28 points. Kevin Garnett was a monster on the glass, picking up 14 rebounds. Heading to the Staples Center in Los Angeles, the Celtics led the series 2-0.

The Lakers felt good coming back home. The next three games would be played in a place they were already 8-0 in the postseason at. This game was back and forth, before the Lakers took command in the fourth quarter and came away with a 87-81 win, to cut the series lead to 2-1. Kobe Bryant went off scoring 36 points, and was assisted by Pau Gasol's 12 rebounds. The Lakers did a much better job defending the Celtics, limiting Paul Pierce to just six points. The series now got interesting.

Game four was a game the Lakers should have won, but let slip away. The Lakers took a 35-14 first quarter lead, and led 58-40 at halftime. Heading into the second half, it looked as if the Lakers would even the series at 2-2. But the Celtics would not be denied. Outscoring the Lakers 31-15 in the third quarter, and 26-18 in the fourth quarter the Celtics stunned the home crowd, and Phil Jackson's squad, and won the game 97-91. Paul Pierce scored 20 points, Ray Allen added 19 and Kevin Garnett 16, but the real surprise was James Posey off the bench, who scored 18 points. The Lakers would look back on the series and point to this game as a devastating blow.

With the devastating of game four in their minds, it would have been real easy for the Lakers to quit, and give the Celtics game five, but they did quite the opposite. The Lakers once again jumped on the Celtics with a 39-22 lead after one quarter. That lead would hold this time, as the Lakers won, and moved the series back to Boston, by the final score of 103-98. Paul Pierce's 38 points, and Kevin Garnett's double-double was not enough, as the Lakers were led by Kobe's 25, and Odom's 20, added double digit rebound games from Odom and Gasol. The Lakers were still alive, but to win the NBA title, they were going to have to win two straight games- both in Boston.

Game six was a nightmare from start to finish. The Celtics were inside the Lakers Jerseys at every turn. This game was never close from tip to final horn. The Celtics led by as many as 45 points at one point in the game, and the final margin ended at 39; 131-92. The Celtics were led by the hot shooting of Ray Allen, and Paul Pierce, and the ever calm presence of Kevin Garnett, scoring 26 points and 14 rebounds. The 2007-2008 NBA season was over, with the Celtics winning the NBA title, and the Lakers coming away as second best.
