During the 2008 NBA Finals it seemed that every time we saw a Celtic defender, they were relentless in their efforts against the lakers. The Celtics definitely went with the old adage of defense wins championships. In the six game series with the Celtics, Gasol averaged 14.6 points per game, and added 10.2 rebounds per game. The scoring numbers are a bit down from his regular season average of 18.8 points per game, but his rebounds were up from his 7.8 per game. Four of the six games in the series Pau put up a double-double, and fell just four assists short of a triple double during game five, a game in which the Lakers won 103-98, forcing a game six in Boston. During the entire postseason Gasol put up 11 double doubles in 21 total games. Aside from game five, Gasol had several other very nice games, including twice scoring 17 points, and grabbing 10 rebounds in the same game. These stats came in games two and four.
During the six game series Gasol shot 53.0% from the field, which was actually an increase from his season percentage. Gasol went to the line 34 times during the six games, making 22 of them, making for a 65% free throw percentage during the finals. Gasol seemed to at times be double and even triple teamed at times, with great defense from Kendrick Perkins, James Posey, Kevin Garnett, and P.J. Brown.
