My Personal Hall of Fame of Excuses

why and how excuses keep us from reaching our limits
Here are some of the excuses I like to use to keep from having to make a decision, go to work on something that I need to do but have been avoiding, go after what I want but don't have the guts to face the task ahead, or simply to face the fact that I'm letting myself down. (Note that most of the following excuses blame someone or something else.)
1. My wife wouldn't want me to do this. 2. My kids would be "embarrassed" if I did this. 3. I'll wait till I have a little more money in the bank. 4. I'll wait till tomorrow. 5. I'll wait until the kids are gone. 6. It's too risky. 7. Somebody I trust told me it won't work. 8. It's too hard. 9. I better not try this now after I messed up the last time. 10. I'm afraid to look silly/bad/stupid.
A few years ago, at http://www.DreamJobsToGo.com, we conducted a survey, to which several hundred people responded, from all walks of life. More than half of the respondents said they were unhappy in their current work lives. Yet, when asked what was preventing them from making a change, over 80 percent listed a reason that would fit into my Top 10 above.
But, those are my excuses, so go out and get your own.
