RV park vs. Tent Camping

Author: Darrin Hitchington

Ok, so you have never really enjoyed the "wilderness warrior braving the elements" kind of camping. It's ok; there are compromises. Next time you have to get out of the city, consider renting an RV and staying at an RV park rather than the tent and sleeping bag type of camping you have done before.

Ok, so you have never really enjoyed the "wilderness warrior braving the elements" kind of camping. It's ok; there are compromises. Next time you have to get out of the city, consider renting an RV and staying at an RV park rather than the tent and sleeping bag type of camping you have done before. Sure, you want to rough it a little, but there is no need to go overboard right? When was the last time you went camping? Many have not been since their childhood days, and even then it was probably with the scouts. Camping at that time meant learning survival tips as well as hiking, which provided great exercise and fun. Camping equipment simply referred to sleeping bags and the tent. Today, camping equipment can mean something completely different. Somewhere along the line, someone stole camping. Campers these days don't usually lay out under the stars, unless they can see them through the moon roof or whatever they call them in RVs. There is no need any longer to unpack the car, pitch the tent, go for water, and build a campfire. Just pull into an RV park with a lake, hook up for power and water, and prepare to enjoy camping 21st century style. A camper used to be a title for someone who camped, but it now refers to what modern campers sleep in at campgrounds. The term camping equipment now refers to many technologically advanced amenities. However, owning an RV does sometimes restrict where you can go. Usually reservations are needed, instead of the first come first served rule. Campsites no longer honor the first come, first serve rule. These days, if you want to stay at an RV park, then you must make campground reservations. For the modern camper, no longer do you have to try to locate a campsite on your own, then pitch the tent, find the kerosene lamp, and get a fire going so you could boil water and cook dinner. All of the modern conveniences are incorporated into the RVs. Some may say that camping just isn't camping anymore; many say it's better.

Darrin Hitchington has camped all over the state of California. After getting married and having kids, Darrin discovered the joys of scamp trailers. No longer does his wife complain about sleeping on dirt with bugs. Now, they all have fun, bringing the comforts of home to the beautiful outdoors with one of Scamp’s rv campers.
