Author: Steven Penney
Stag parties are being warned off by local authorities in Bratislava.
Bratislava is a popular stag destination for British and Irish groups - fuelled by low cost flights, cheap booze and a small and friendly city with popular evening activities. Nowadays, however, the balance between having fun and being a public nuisance is starting to tilt in favour of the latter.
Stag night organisers have received messages of concern from the British Embassy in Bratislava, citing local authorities concern over wild weekend activities spilling over to unsavoury incidents.
The balance between stag parties and local populations has been seen in many locations over recent year - with hotels keen to accept the business, but local authorities keen to retain a balance between bringing in new high-spending business and the local environment.
Stag party organisers often write to party members, emphasising the importance of a sense of propriety, but it is perfectly possible for clients to book rooms in Bratislava on any number of sites without telling anyone why they are travelling. Bratislava lies within the EC, so no visas are needed - and no control can be exercised prior to travel. However, if the balance slips, we may soon see firmer police action to round up the drunk and disorderly. They have been warned. Lets hope that the silly minority dont spoil the fun for the sensible majority. After all, Bratislava is the perfect stag party destination.
