A Tuberculosis out break has happened on the USS Ronald Reagan Aircraft Carrier, but this should not surprise anyone because a small floating city of 4000 people is isolated from the rest of the world and this can easily happen. We will see more tuberculosis cases in the United States due to the huge influx of illegal immigration from Mexico. We do not screen illegal immigrants when they cross over our borders illegally because they do not come through checkpoints. But even so we do not screen for diseases at checkpoints either and this is something we must look into.
As we send our military forces overseas to other nations, which are not as clean and have issues with their water supplies and pollution we can expect more of these things to happen. People who live in the United States of America may not realize how lucky they are. Those sailors aboard the USS Ronald Reagan understand how lucky they are because many of them have seen far away ports.
Land we send our soldiers, airmen, sailors and Marines to foreign lands to police the world or protect innocent life they are at risk from more than just the enemy. Diseases, viruses, bacteria and other harmful biological substances including biological weapons are issues that the military must consider. There is no easy way to protect all of our military personnel and therefore we need to be careful. Please consider this in 2006.
